Providing Activities For The Elderly CIC
About Us...
In 2017 Activities Organiser & Dementia Ambassador
Lynn & Katharine Smith founded SMILE.
Smile's aim is to keep people active in their senior years.
Katharine & Lynn work together hand in hand providing activities
for people living with dementia and age related illnesses in Scotland.
Each activity is carefully developed to encourage people to link
together, socialise & have fun while building a support network.
Springtime ~ 2017
Activities Boxes
Spring Tea Dance Box
Irish Tea Dance Box
In March 2017 Lynn & Katharine started fundraising for
activities equipment for elderly people in hospitals
care homes & community groups.
Lynn & Katharine made pots & pots of homemade
jam & marmalade till they raised enough
fund's for two Tea Dance Activity Boxes.
Spring ~ Tea Dance's
With the money raised from the homemade jam & marmalade
Lynn & Katharine purchased Easter equipment for a
Easter Tea Dance Activities Box.
Themed Tea Dances are a great way to help people with dementia identify the time of year.
The Irish Tea Dance Box
is the second box made from the fundraising money
to help enhance St Patricks Day Celebrations.
Since 2017 Strictly Irish
have been performing at our Irish Events.
Thank you Strictly Irish
for all your support.
MAY FUNDRAISER
COMMUNITY CYCLE 2017
In 2017 Katharine & Lynn launched their first Community Fundraiser.
With the support of
Cycling Without Age, West Lothian Bike Lending Library
and the local community of Uphall & Broxburn
the residents of Middleton Hall had the pleasure
to lead the cycle challenge on trishaws
from Uphall to Broxburn.
Lynn & Katharine would like to thank the children from Uphall Primary School and community friends & families for helping with the challenge.
Scottish Parliament
A month after the fundraiser.
Cycling Without Age invited the residents to a conference with the first minister in The Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh
to demonstrating the fun & benefits that people
in care homes can get from physical activity.
With the use of the seated exercise kits purchased from the fundraising money
the residents of Middleton Hall had the pleasure of demonstrating
the fun and enjoyment people can get from physical exercise.
Summer 2017
After a busy few months it was the dawning that although fundraising was fun, especially involving friends, families and people from our local community,
realistically we cannot expect the same people to continually
fund and support our projects.
We have one of two choices, Give Up or Go Forward..
THE ALZHEIMER'S SHOW 2017
In July 2017 we were invited by Four Seasons Health Care to
The Alzheimers Show In London.
After a long weekend with some of Britain's leading experts in dementia, Katharine & Lynn now had the inspiration and courage to take the next step with their plans.
Providing Activities For The Elderly
Katharine & Lynn want to be able to support people living with Dementia & Age Related Illnesses,
by keeping them active as long as possible.
Charity or Community Interest Company ?
It's now August and after hours of research and good advice from friends & colleagues we have made the decision to be a Community Interest Company.
Dementia
is not a natural part of aging.
It is caused when a disease damages nerve cells in the brain
Dementia
is a set of symptoms that over time can affect memory, problem-solving, language and behaviour.
Dementia
is progressive, which means symptoms may be relatively mild at first, but they get worse over time.
Alzheimers Society uses a Forget Me Not to represent that people with dementia forget, but are not to be forgotten.
The Community Interest Company
that aim for is to keep people happy, bright and active
for as long as possible in their senior years.
Katharine & Lynn Smith run Smile completely voluntary
100% non profit as a Community Interest Company.
A community interest company is a type of company introduced by
The United Kingdom Government in 2005
under the Companies Act 2004,
designed for social enterprises that want
to use their profits & assets for public good.
